1.All India Bar Examination -AIBE-XV to be conducted on January 24, 2021, AIBE -XVI to be Conducted on March 21.

The Bar council of India has decided to hold the All-India Bar Examination XVI on March 21, 2021.The online registration for the same would start from 26th December, 2020 to 21st February, 2021.  The examination date for AIBE -XV remain unchanged i.e., January 24, 2021.

2.Calcutta High Court held that Adult women is free to marry of her choice and can decide to convert.

Calcutta High Court on Monday, 21st December made it clear that if an adult marries as per her choice and decides to undergo conversion, there should be no interference in that matter. The case is based on a complaint filed by a father of a 19-year-old daughter who was alleged to be missing. Later on, it was found that she marries a person with whom she had a relationship.

3.Justice DY Chandrachud suggested to chief justices of high courts to make e- courts accessible to specially abled 

A letter has been addressed to all the chief justices of high courts across India by Justice DY Chandrachud, Supreme Court elaborating the urgent need of having accessible infrastructure including digital ecosystem and enabling physically challenged Lawyers and litigants to participate in legal profession in equal footing.

4.A special CBI Court of Thiruvanathapuram sentenced Father Thomas M Kottoor and Sister Sephy to life imprisonment of Sister Abhaya

Father Thomas M Kottoor and Sister, priest and nun respectively of a Catholic church were sentenced to life imprisonment by a special CBI Court of Thiruvananthapuram for the gruesome murder of Sister Abhaya in the year 1992.

5.Delhi High Court held that no legality is attached to Fatwa

Recently the Delhi High Court held that there cannot be any legality or validity attached to a fatwa especially in regard to ownership of immovable property, and such a declaration would not be binding on third party.

6.Kerela Government moves Supreme Court of India against direction of High Court on Sabrimala

Kerela Government filed plea in the Supreme Court against the order of Kerela High Court’s direction to raise the number of daily pilgrimages to 5000. A committee was formed under the chairmanship of chief minister of Kerela and have decided to allow 1000 pilgrimages in weekdays and 2000 in weekends by looking at the covid situation.

7.Plea in the Supreme Court seeking direction to constitute Law Commission of India as a statutory body.

A PIL has been moved for a direction to the Centre to appoint Chairperson and Members of Law Commission of India within one month and make it a statutory body. Petitioner argued that Supreme Court being the custodian of the Constitution shall direct for immediate appointments.

8.Plea in the Supreme Court for setting up of anti-corruption Courts.

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court for setting up of anti-corruption courts with a mandate to dispose of each case within a year in all districts of the country.

9.Plea in the Supreme Court seeking establishment of Media Tribunal.

Film Producer Nilesh Navalakha has moved the Supreme Court seeking establishment of an independent, regulatory Media Tribunal to hear and adjudicate complaint against media businessman filed by viewers/citizens. According to the petitioner, it is necessary to bring about a balance between the right to freedom of speech and expression of media businessman and the competing right to information of citizens, right to dignity under article 21 as well as preserving interest of peace and harmony in the nation. 

10.Bar Council of India condemns police assault on Etah

Noticing the police assault on Etah, BCI issued a press release condemning the incident and requests Chief Justice of India and Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court seeking direction to Uttar Pradesh Government for immediate suspension of the guilty police personnels.
